Writing Challenge “X”

My experience in EN-151 has been very interesting. I’ve learned a lot about myself and what I expect out of myself when it comes to writing. My first day of this class and my last day in this class is completely different from each other. My exceptions were too high, I had a lot of dreadful moments, but I was successful in this class, and not just because I am smart but because of other great things that has helped me. EN-151 has helped me realize the type of writer and student that I am.

The day’s before my first day in EN-151, I did not know what to expect. I knew that It was a writing class, and I was happy about that, because I love to write. I love creative writing, and EN-151 is not that, so I was more curious on what to expect from this class. I was not sure if I was going to actually learn anything because I felt like I knew almost everything about writing, but what I knew was all about creative writing and not this style of writing. Since this class was not a creative writing class I was hoping to gain little to nothing, so I did not want anything from this class in the beginning; I was not interested, It was just a class I had to take. In the beginning I dreaded a lot. I was actually happy about writing eleven plus essays, but I did not want to write about uninteresting topics, and that is what we did at first. Uninteresting topics does not keep my interest.

My first day in En-151 I was uncomfortable because Mr. Murray  was beyond energized, and I made my assumption that I would not like this class because of all of the unneeded energy. So, my first fear was confirmed, I wanted to like this class but I figured that I wouldn’t because of the first interaction. The first day I payed attention as much as I can without being annoyed, but what caught my attention was when Mr. Murray mentioned the first essay, I was excited to see if we were going to do an interesting topic. The topic was not interesting at all, I wanted a challenge right away, but that did not happen. My exceptions were too high for this class. My exceptions were too high because this isn’t my first time in college, and I had hope to finish were I once was, but that was not the case at all.

Looking back now, this class is what I believe I needed to help with my writing skills. I knew from the beginning that I would succeed in this class, only because I wanted to get it over with, it wasn’t something I was interested . I was surprised that I procrastinated a lot,  because I started to enjoy this class and enjoy the different topics. Me procrastinating made me slightly fall behind in posting my essays, and Mr. Murray mentioned that in the beginning. It is very easy to fall behind in this class, and having that happen to me surprised me because I knew that I was not that type of student to allow this to happen.

EN-151 has helped me with my writing skills, I’ve gained tools that I can use outside of this classroom and outside of school. Taking this class is very beneficial in the long run, and everyone should take this class no matter what major you have. I was able to learn new things about myself, and appreciate another style of writing.  From the first day of class to now a lot has changed, I see myself has a better writer than I was before.
